CHURCH SERVICE: ALL SAINTS AND ALL SOULS FESTIVALS

The beginning of November is a wonderful time in the Church's worship life. On the 1st of November the Solemnity of All Souls is celebrated, and on the 2nd November prayer for all those who have passed away is held.

Today Good Shepherd Church hold worship. Prayer for all readers of our blogs and for all those in need are held.

Reading 1 from the Book of Revelation 7:2-4, 9-14

I, John, saw another angel come up from the East,

holding the seal of the living God.

He cried out in a loud voice to the four angels

who were given power to damage the land and the sea,

"Do not damage the land or the sea or the trees

until we put the seal on the foreheads of the servants of our God."

I heard the number of those who had been marked with the seal,

one hundred and forty-four thousand marked

from every tribe of the children of Israel.

After this I had a vision of a great multitude,

which no one could count,

Word of Encouragement;

Celebrant; 'Dear people, the God of love reaches out to us every day. We have our tears which we weep; our struggles we deal with; the people we love. We have happiness, difficulties, experience. And then we look forward at the end of our lives to eternal life with our Father in Heaven. Many have gone before us to the mansion God has uniquely prepared for each one. 

We, who form part of God's worldwide family, follow in the footsteps of past generations over the centuries. We are heirs of the age-old promises of God. Let us take a few moments and pray for all those who have gone before us to God's Kingdom; for those of us who now prepare in the autumn and winter of our lives for that great journey; and for all those generations in the future who are destined to follow us into Heaven. 

We also pray with fervour for those who have had difficulties in completing their lives with honour and peace, and who need the forgiveness of God our Heavenly Father. 

We thus pray with devotion today, Lord, for all Saints in Heaven and for All Souls who have departed this earth, especially those most in need of our prayers. 

We thank God for His limitless love for us, and celebrate His great power. 

We remember our children and our children's children who will follow us, that God will be with them as He so gently and immovably has been there for us. Amen.'

In faith let us pray to God our Father, in the Name of His Son our Lord Jesus Christ, and in the power of the Holy Spirit.

God of love, we pray for the life of your Church throughout the world.

May every congregation be a community of love and every follower of yours a witness to Your Grace.

God of compassion, we pray for those who are ill or anxious at home or in hospital.

We pray for those suffering from fear and despair. Draw near with your saving love and bring hope and healing.

God of mercy, we pray for all in the world, especially for those in most need of your grace. We pray for those affected by war.

God of glory, we rejoice in the communion of saints, and remember all those who have lived and have died. They, too, are our sisters and brothers in the wider human family. Be with them all as they turn towards you at the last. Show great mercy to those most in need of Your Mercy, Lord. Amen.

THE GREAT PROMISE OF THE SACRED HEART OF JESUS

 

JESUS MADE THE FOLLOWING PROMISES FOR THOSE WHO HONOR HIM AS THE SON OF GOD;

1. I will give them all of the graces that are necessary for their state in life
2. I will help all families that are in difficulty and I will bring peace to families that are divided
3. I will console them in their afflictions
4. I will be their safe refuge in life and especially at the hour of their death
5. I will shower their work with abundant blessings
6. Sinners will find a source and an ocean of Mercy in My Heart
7. I will bring religious communities and individual faithful people back to their initial fervour
8. Fervent souls will reach great perfection in a short time
9. I will bless the places where the image of My Sacred Heart is exposed and honoured
10. To all of those who work for the salvation of souls I will give the gift of moving even the most hardened hearts
11. The name of those who propagate devotion to My Sacred Heart will be written in My Heart and it will never be cancelled out
[Jesus' great Love for us is often depicted with a heart with flames [on fire with love for us] - and is known as the 'Sacred Heart of Jesus'.

Lastly, the Great Promise;
"I promise you, in the excess of Mercy of My Heart, that My Omnipotent Love will give all those who receive Holy Communion on the First Friday of the Month for nine consecutive months, the grace of final penance. 
  They will not die in a state of disgrace, or without receiving the Sacraments, and My Heart will be their safe refuge during that last hour."

How to do the Nine First Fridays;
1. Make confession to God of your sins, and repent them
2. Attend the Holy Eucharist and receive Communion on the First Friday of each month. Do this for nine months.

What does Confession require?
First, when we confess to God, we need to reflect. What have we done that is sinful, that requires change?
We then turn to God and confess where we have gone wrong.
We need to realize that we must change our way of life.
  We make a firm decision to change our life with God's help.

Now choose to do only that which is right.
If it is in any way possible, let us resolve to make amends in the situation we caused.
  Sometimes, unfortunately, this is not possible.
In that case, let us put the situation into the gentle Hands of Jesus and ask Him to intercede in whatever way possible.
Then be at peace.

We are all on a journey; we are all prone to sinfulness.
  We all make mistakes on our way.
Yet, let us do everything we can to live as faithful followers of Jesus Christ.
  This means following the Commandments, and following the precepts of life Jesus Christ taught in the Gospels.

Why pray the Nine First Fridays devotion?
There is good sense behind the practice. A regular and devoted prayer life stands us in good stead, and strengthens our morality, sense of values and character.
  This helps us to be strong when faced with situations that may tempt us to do wrong, instead of that which is right.

CHAPEL OF REMEMBRANCE - PRAYER FOR OUR DEPARTED FAMILY AND FRIENDS

 

IT IS A HOLY THOUGHT AND DEED TO PRAY FOR THOSE WHO HAVE PASSED ON BEFORE US.
As we celebrate the feast of All Saints [November 1st] and All Souls [November 2nd], let us pray for our departed loved ones. 

Many pray for their departed loved ones by attending holy Mass and by devout  prayer.
It is an ancient and holy custom to approach a good priest to celebrate the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass for the intentions of the deceased.
Many congregants write the names of those departed on a list known as an Altar List.

Why not remember your family and friends in this special way?
Here, in this Chapel of Remembrance, pray for those who have gone before. Also in your kindness offer up prayer for those who have no one to pray for them, and offer especial prayer for those most in need.

Many parishes offer an altar list on which you can write the names of those for whom you wish to pray.

PRAYER CHAPEL FOR THOSE INVOLVED WITH THE OCCULT: WHY NOT PRAY?

There is much heavenly assistance for those involved with occult. Blessed Bartolo Longo converted from the occult to become a member of the Third Order of Saint Dominic. As he was undergoing his conversion experience, he was inspired by Mary's promise; "If you seek salvation, promulgate the rosary. This is Mary's own promise."

Bartolo turned to Jesus Christ, restored a delapidated old church and installed a repaired painting of Our Lady of the Rosary therein. Within hours of its installation miracles began to be reported, and people flocked to the church in droves.

  

Bartolo has been named "The Apostle of the Rosary."

Why not pray the Prayers of Blessed Bartolo Longo for the specific conversion of someone struggling with the occult? Jesus has told us that if we ask, we will receive. If we knock on the door, it will be opened. Let us pray for our brothers and sisters involved in occultism.

Wear the Miraculous Medal, a powerful aid

Please know, too, that the Miraculous Medal has proven powerful in conversion from occultism. Zachary King converted from occultism through the power of the Miraculous Medal. 

The Rue du Bac in Paris is where the then novice, Sr Catherine Laboure, was blessed with the apparitions of Mary Immaculate. Mary, Queen of Heaven, came to visit Catherine and asked her to have a holy medal made, which would give great protection and graces.

As Catherine was shown the design for the medal, she heard a voice say, "Have a medal struck upon this model. All those who wear it, when it is blessed, will receive great graces specially if they wear it round the neck.

O grieving Mother, through the martyrdom of your heart, when you met your Son weighed down beneath the heavy cross, staining the road to Calvary with his blood: grant that I, clinging to Jesus' cross, follow behind, daily carrying the cross of my troubles with meekness and with perfect conformity to the will of God. O Queen, Lady of the Angels, through the joy you experienced when you were taken into heaven body and soul: come with Jesus to assist me at the hour of my death, and lead me with you to everlasting happiness.
