He is a dedicated and devoted man of God, respected by theologians worldwide for his profound learning and achievements.
The Pope Emeritus taught theology at Universities, including Munster and Regensburg.
Theological papers he wrote have been an accredited and much-used resource by all who wish to learn more about God.
He has written encyclicals including Deus caritas est and Spe salvi; and apostolic documents.
In his earlier years Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI became Cardinal and Archbishop of Munich.
The late and respected Saint Pope John Paul II placed such confidence in him that he made him one of his closest advisors.
Eighth Pope in German History
In the two decades that followed, the Pope Emeritus was the Head of the Congregation for the Doctrine of Faith.
Thereafter this esteemed theologian and man of God became Pope; the eighth Pope in German history.
